The main event for youth and students from all over the world!

The 19th World Festival of Youth and Students / #WFYS2017 is to be held on October 14-22, 2017, in Sochi, Russia.

The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) and international student organizations made this decision at the international consultation meeting on holding of the 19th Festival on February 7, 2016.

Russia hosted the Festival twice – in 1957 (the 6th Festival) and in 1985 (the 12th Festival). The 6th World Festival-1957 held in Moscow was the largest one in terms of the number of participants in the history of the festival movement.

The main goals of the Festival: consolidating the international youth community around the idea of peace, solidarity and social justice, strengthening international youth ties, as well as promoting international and intercultural youth cooperation.

More than 20 000 young people from 150 countries aged between 18 and 35 years will participate in the 19th Festival. Among them are leaders of youth non-profit organizations and political parties, young journalists, creative and sporting youth, young professors and scientists, leaders of student self-government, as well as young compatriots abroad and foreigners who study Russian language and are interested in Russian culture. Russia will host more than 8 000 foreign participants!

All costs (accommodation, food, participation in cultural and sports events) during the Festival shall be covered by the host party. The Festival will be held in the well-known Olympic Park in Sochi on the bank of the Black Sea. The best infrastructural objects will be engaged in the program, and for convenience of the Festival participants the most modern hotels of the city will open the doors. The travel expenses to the Festival venue (city of Sochi) and back shall be covered by the participant / the sending party. At the same time, the organizers are currently working on the arrangement of charter flights to Moscow from different countries and regions of the world, for the possibility to purchase tickets at the lowest prices. And also, for the participants of the Festival will be provided a special, simplified visa regime (visa application for the participant of the Festival will be free) to enter the territory of the Russian Federation.

For all participants it will be necessary to pass the Skype interview with the Festival organizers after passing pre-selection stage.

The 19th Festival program involves various platforms, including panel discussions, open lectures on topical issues of youth policy and international relations, sports competitions, as well as a number of cultural and creative events. Tentatively, key issues of the event will be: “Culture and globalization”, “Global economy”, “Knowledge economy”, “Social institutions development” and “Politics and international security”. Work at the event will be conducted in the 6 official languages of the United Nations.

Furthermore, the Festival for the first time will go beyond one city! So, for participants is provided the regional program, during which foreign participants will be able to visit several Russian cities, such as St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Vladivostok, Sevastopol/Simferopol.

On November 1, 2016, the year-round International Youth Media Center of the 19th Festival, consisting of young journalists / bloggers from around the world, started its work. The Media Center team will cover the major events within preparation and holding of the Festival.

A large Volunteer corps, which will consist of 5 000 volunteers, including foreign citizens, will assist in organizing the upcoming Festival. In order to become foreign participant, the candidate needs to fill in the application of the Festival participant and define in it his desire to join the Volunteer corps.
